Hoy hace 4 años de la muerte de Chuck Schuldiner (Death / Control Denied) a causa de un tumor cerebral. La página de tributo EmptyWords.org ha puesto a disposición del público general un par de golosinas:

Digging out Chuck?s office together with Jane, we found this one, which we didn’t even know existed. Very special. And like the other Crusades, it’s again very funny with the difference that most of it was written by Chuck himself, and that this issue was never released? until now.

ANNIHILATOR: ‘Ten Years In Hell’ Double-Disc DVD Due In February

Long-running Canadian thrash legends ANNIHILATOR will be issuing a retrospective double-disc DVD set, entitled «Ten Years in Hell», on February 21, 2006 (one day earlier internationally) via SPV. The set contains seven classic, official ANNIHILATOR music videos, offstage band footage and bonus underground, fan-shot, live performances and a special interview with ANNIHILATOR founder and guitarist Jeff Waters as he recounts his memories of the band’s first ten years in Hell. Also included are special appearances by original co-lyricist John Bates, «Neverland» frontman Coburn Pharr, «Criteria» bassist Russell Bergquist, and «Set the World on Fire»‘s Mike Mangini and Neil Goldberg. De acuerdo con Blabbermouth, Roadrunner Records [wiki] sacará un re-edición del último disco de Opeth [wiki], «Ghost Reveries»:

OPETH: BBC Session Recordings To Surface On ‘Ghost Reveries’ Special Re-Release

Sweden’s OPETH visited the legendary BBC studios in Maida Vale, London, U.K. to record a couple of songs scheduled to be aired on BBC Radio 1 sometime soon. The songs will also be included on the planned special release of «Ghost Reveries». The tracks recorded were as follows: «The Grand Conjuration», «When» and «Soldier of Fortune» (DEEP PURPLE cover).

OPETH‘s new album, «Ghost Reveries», is available now on Roadrunner Records. The band utilized the services of STRAPPING YOUNG LAD drummer Gene Hoglan during the bulk of this summer’s Sounds of the Underground tour after the group’s regular skinsman, Martin Lopez, went back to Sweden for treatment of a rare blood disorder he’s had for most of his life. The group have since enlisted Martin Axenrot (BLOODBATH, WITCHERY, NIFELHEIM) to take over Lopez‘ duties until he’s fully recovered.

Y es que Roadrunner tiene esa manía (y similares): saca un disco y al poco tiempo saca una edición «especial», con nuevo libretito y alguna canción adicional. Yo aprendí una temporadita a guardar dos costumbres que mis bolsillos han agradecido:

  1. Escuchar el disco antes de comprármelo, salvo que sepa que me lo voy a comprar invariablemente. Si (después de escucharlo) me gusta, me lo compraré.
  2. Si no es una edición especial/limitada, puedo escucharlo perfectamente en mp3 hasta que el disco tenga un precio razonable, o saquen una edición mejor.

Además, al paso que van, no hace falta esperar mucho: «Ghost Reveries» salió a la venta el 30 de Agosto. Sólo hay que tener un poco de paciencia. Lo molesto para los «coleccionistas crónicos» como yo es cuando un disco que te gusta está en más de una versión que te gustaría tener. Véase el caso del «Leviathan» de Mastodon [wiki]. Pero eso es otra historia.

Por cierto, para los que quieran apoyar a Opeth, en vez de gastarse el dinero en otro disco, yo les recomendaría asistir a alguno de sus conciertos, ya que algunos no vamos a tener ese gusto. Y con el de Andy Timmons y el de Helloween [wiki] van tres disgustos en dos semanas… *sigh*.
