ContactMusic.com (www.contactmusic.com) has issued the following report:

Late rocker JIMI HENDRIX’s classic 1967 track ‘Purple Haze’ has topped a new poll naming the most misheard lyric in pop music history.

The song’s line «‘Scuse me while I kiss the sky» is regularly interpreted by fans as «‘Scuse me while I kiss this guy», according to a survey by British hearing aid company David Ormerod Hearing Centres.

Second in the poll is THE BEATLES’ ‘Paperback Writer’, the title lyric of which listeners often confuse for «Paint the black whiter», followed by SADE’s ‘Smooth Operator’, which is regularly heard as «Smoother the better».
