Charlie Nothing the Artist is a subdivision of Charles Martin Simon The Writer. Some writers have no problem doing art. For example, Henry Miller was somewhat of a painter. Charles Martin Simon, however, could not, can not, will never be able to do art. When his wife the artist died, he inherited her art supplies and so he had to try, but the experience proved futile, painful, and produced a psyche fragmentation, which he, having been reduced to nothing, named Charlie Nothing.

Charlie Nothing quit performing in the 1980s, believing he had evolved past the entertaining-monkey-jumping-up-and-down-on-the-stage stage.

Charlie Nothing came back to performing in 2004, realizing he was in fact a monkey jumping up and down.

Tanto la foto como el texto anterior están sacados de la sección dedicada a Charlie Nothing de la página de Charles Martin Simon, creador de los Dingulators, instrumentos/esculturas hechos a partir de coches americanos.

En el primero de los enlaces apuntados hay más fotos del creador y su obra, entre las que he seleccionado las más antiguas porque me apetecía. Ya que no he tenido la oportunidad de oír nada de Charlie Nothing (y valga la redundancia) su atractivo para mí se reduce casi exclusivamente a una cuestión de imagen y estas son las que me han gustado más. Además, la foto con la que abría este post me recordó a otra foto que pasó por aquí, por las barbas y las sombras sobre los ojos. Creo que tiene que ver con algo de gusto fetichista por Alan Moore.
