A través de Guitar Blog llego a esta subasta en la que la gente puede pujar por el engendro que ven sobre estas líneas. Aparte del diseño en forma de Doraemon, la guitarra parece llevar un amplificador integrado, lo que sin duda la hace todavía más «especial».
Hace algo más de una semana pude ver Zack and Miri Make a Porno, la última película de Kevin Smith. Antes de seguir, si no la habéis visto y preferís no saber absolutamente nada de la película hasta verla dejad de leer inmediatamente.
En el post de ayer hacía referencia a una entrada donde me quejaba de los CDs de bandas sonoras que poco o nada tienen que ver con la película. En la última obra de Kevin Smith hay una escena que está acompañada por «Hold Me Up» [03m05s] de Live, una pista que no pasó el corte para ser incluida en Throwing Copper. Como dato chorra, el cantante de Live, Ed Kowalczyk, actuó como camarero en Fight Club.
Por desgracia, el disco de la banda sonora tampoco incluye este tema. La canción funciona espectacularmente bien en la escena y su elección es un mérito más del señor Smith:
It’s an old song that I first heard in ‘95, when we were putting together the Mallrats soundtrack. It was actually in the film for the first test screening, but Live decided they wanted to hold onto it as a potential single off their next album (which would follow Throwing Copper). When I was editing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, the song had still never surfaced or been released, so I put in a request for it again. Again, I was denied.
Third time, apparently, was the charm. Needed a song for that sequence in Zack and Miri and remembered the Live track. This time, the band signed off on us using the track. Took 13 years, but was worth the wait.
El hecho de que no incluyesen la obra maestra de Stan Bush (que mencioné hace año y medio) a la que hace referencia la tira cómica señalada le resta algunos puntos. Sin embargo, sigue siendo una fuente perfectamente válida para buscar algo de música motivadora para un lunes por la mañana, al estilo de los 80. :)
Guitarist Ol Drake of UK thrashers EVILE has recorded his own rendition of DEATH‘s track «Voice of the Soul» as a tribute to late DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner, who died seven years ago at the of 34.
Commented Ol Drake, «With the anniversary of Chuck‘s passing just round the corner, I thought it’d be fitting to make some kind of tribute to him. I decided to record a rendition of DEATH‘s ‘Voice of the Soul’ to commemorate the passing of one of metal’s most influential icons. So here it is, packed full with fuck-ups.»

Chuck Schuldiner passed away on December 13, 2001 after a a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor.
To coincide with what would have been DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner‘s 40th birthday (Chuck was born on May 13, 1967), the official DEATH web site Empty Words posted the Schuldiner tribute article (entitled «Lust for Life») which was published in Guitar World magazine’s April 2007 issue. No es necesario tener un gusto por Super Mario Bros. 2 para apreciar este estupendo arreglo de la música del primer nivel de dicho juego. Si tenéis un minuto escuchadlo porque merece la pena.
