EVILE recorded a cover of the track «Cemetary Gates», and this tragically turned out to be the band’s last recording before the untimely death of their own bassist, Mike Alexander, who passed away on October 5 while on tour in Sweden.

Guitarist Ol Drake of UK thrashers EVILE has recorded his own rendition of DEATH‘s track «Voice of the Soul» as a tribute to late DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner, who died seven years ago at the of 34.

Commented Ol Drake, «With the anniversary of Chuck‘s passing just round the corner, I thought it’d be fitting to make some kind of tribute to him. I decided to record a rendition of DEATH‘s ‘Voice of the Soul’ to commemorate the passing of one of metal’s most influential icons. So here it is, packed full with fuck-ups.»

You can listen to Ol Drake‘s version of «Voice of the Soul» below.

Chuck Schuldiner passed away on December 13, 2001 after a a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor.

To coincide with what would have been DEATH mastermind Chuck Schuldiner‘s 40th birthday (Chuck was born on May 13, 1967), the official DEATH web site Empty Words posted the Schuldiner tribute article (entitled «Lust for Life») which was published in Guitar World magazine’s April 2007 issue. Check it out at this location.
