And that’s saying something because I’ve met a lot of them! In fact, most of them have a fresh tan and a golf swing that wasn’t perfected just on the weekends. I’m through with them making money off my music.

Mustaine o Megadeth [wiki], que viene a ser lo mismo.


ACTUALIZACIÓN: En tamaño (ligeramente más) grande aquí.

La primera noticia es que «United Abominations», el undécimo disco de estudio de Megadeth, saldrá a la venta el 8 de mayo, tal y como confirmó en los foros del grupo.

So, yes the May 8th date is finally confirmed now that the mix is nearly done. I hate saying when release dates are, because sometimes they change, and you have to deal with naysayers who behave like the ultimate inch of colon, but I would rather this record was finished to my standards, and above (which it is . . . about time, I know) then put out a soft record.

Metal needs a really good old-school record again. I believe I have delivered. It ain’t ‘Rust in Peace 2’, but it could be the record that makes me forget about everything in between.

Si alguien tiene curiosidad por saber como suena el nuevo material se puede puede bajar la canción «Gears of War» de la página oficial de Megadeth. A su vez, YouTube dipone de versiones en directo de esta canción [04m01s] y de «Washington Is Next» [05m39s].

Por otro lado, tras dos años escasos de colaboración, Mustaine deja ESP [wiki] para pasarse a Dean [wiki]. Hace ya unos meses que se había dejado de fabricar el modelo ESP Axxion, con lo que la única incógnita era saber en qué compañía acabaría. Por su parte, Dean lo anuncia a bombo y platillo (con presentaciones como ésta) junto con el resto de novedades del año. Y de muestra, un botón de $1520:

Como curiosidad, existe un video de Mustaine presentando las guitarras en el NAMM [04m45s] de este año (del que me he desentendido totalmente… tendré que ponerme al día).

Después de mi semana festivalera, toca recopilar alguna de las novedades acaecidas en dicho intervalo temporal. Como casi siempre, mi fuente de la información es Blabbermouth, aunque cada vez utilizan más reseñas de relleno. Véase el siguiente caso:

  2. «Noticia» en Blabbermouth, hace unos días

Bueno, nadie es perfecto. Pero no se lo digáis a nadie.

Y entrando en los sucesos de la semana pasada, empezamos por la crónica de una muerte anunciada:

ANTHRAX Guitarist SCOTT IAN: ‘The Reunion Is Over’

ANTHRAX guitarist Scott Ian has issued the following statement via the band’s official fan club site, CDC:

«Finally, we’re going back to work. We’re going to Chicago to work our asses off and write a record. It’s time. We’re ready. One problem… no singer.

«We were offered a direct support slot on a major tour this spring and Joey [Belladonna, vocals] decided he did not want to move forward. The reunion is over. We tried to make it work but I guess that’s the problem, you can’t ‘make’ something work. It’s gotta be natural and at least becoming a band again and playing live was.»

De esta noticia se pueden señalar dos cosas interesantes.

La primera es que seguramente el asunto fue menos unilateral que como lo presenta Scott Ian. Belladonna comentó que le hubiese gustado grabar un nuevo disco con Anthrax [wiki] (véase aquí), con lo que se puede deducir que simplemente no podían trabajar los unos con los otros. Scott & cía plantearían unas condiciones, Belladonna otras y ahí se acabó el asunto. El nuevo fin de Joey en Anthrax ha sido poco elegante, pero al menos no están tirándose los trastos a la cabeza… por el momento.

La segunda es que en todo el comunicado de Scott Ian no se menciona a Dan Spitz como parte del grupo. Otr que se va, es de suponer.

En fin, ya se verá lo que ocurre con Anthrax. Por lo pronto, me pregunto si se atreverán a hablar con John Bush.

Este post debería titularse «Lo que son las cosas», pero el nombre del grupo al que hago referencia en el título es tan bueno que no es conmutable. Damas y caballeros, con ustedes… Sha Na Na [wiki].

Tras tan brillante apelativo se esconde un grupo que no participó de toda la juerga del Festival Express, pero que sí actuó en él. En el documental homónimo figura una única canción suya, con un montaje muy gracioso (para mi gusto) sobre el intento de un puñado de cientos de hippies de entrar sin pagar a ver las actuaciones ya que, según dichos asaltantes, el festival debía ser gratuito. Por desgracia, dicho video no esta disponible en YouTube, así que me conformaré con poner otro video de la misma canción que empieza (al igual que hicieron en Woodstock) tal que:

Uh… We got just one thing to say to you fuckin’ hippies.

Deduzco que el metraje anterior se corresponde con alguna grabación de su propio programa televisivo (y si no es así debería serlo :P), en el que participaron personajes como:

[…] James Brown, the popular 1970’s punk band the Ramones, and musicians from rock & roll’s golden era, such as Little Richard, Bo Diddley, and the Chubby Checker.

Se ve que el tema punk le molaba especialmente al guitarra rítmico del grupo, que sería más tarde el primer manager de Green Day [wiki].

En todo caso, los cinéfilos del lugar puede que los reconozcan mejor por ser los mayores contribuyentes a la banda sonora de Grease, igual que por ser los motivadores del musical que daría pie a dicha película:
